MEET THE COLLECTIVE
Every Stage. Every Question. Every Moment.
We’re not just a group of doulas who happen to work together. We’re a collective—a small, intentional team that collaborates on your care so you get both clinical expertise and grounded support at every stage.
Here’s how we work:
You’ll be matched with one primary doula (Shaniya or Megan) who will be your steady presence—teaching comfort measures, holding space during labor, and advocating alongside you.
Mitsuzi brings the education and strategy—birth plan creation, informed decision-making, and the kind of advocacy that only comes from years at the bedside as an L&D nurse.
If your labor extends beyond 12 hours, Mitsuzi steps in to relieve your doula so they can rest—and you still have fresh, grounded care. No one burns out. No one disappears. You stay supported.
This is what we mean by collective care. You’re not just hiring one person. You’re being held by a team.
I believe birth is sacred. Not just because of what happens physically—but because of what it awakens in you.
As a certified doula and former labor & delivery nurse, I bring both clinical wisdom and deep, grounded care to every family I serve. But here’s the truth: I didn’t start Birthing Noire because I wanted to build a business. I started it because I saw the gap.
I saw families walking into the birth space afraid. Leaving traumatized. Not understanding why things happened the way they did. And that didn’t sit right with my spirit.
So I built something different. A collective where education meets advocacy. Where knowledge meets care. Where families don’t just survive birth—they walk into it informed, and walk out of it whole.
I’m the one who helps you build your birth plan. Who translates medical jargon. Who empowers you to ask the right questions and make decisions that feel aligned. I don’t make choices for you—I make sure you have everything you need to make them yourself.
And when your labor is long, I’m the one who steps in so your doula can rest—because sustainable care is sacred care.
This work is personal. And I show up for you like I’d want someone to show up for me.
I didn’t become a doula because I had my own birth story. I became one because I grew up in a neighborhood that taught me something simple: you lend a hand to those who need it.
I come from a big family. I know what it means to show up for people, even when it’s not convenient. Especially when it’s not convenient. And I’ve watched what happens when support runs out right when families need it most—after the baby comes, after the adrenaline fades, when everyone’s trying to figure out their new normal.
That’s why I’m here.
As your doula, I teach you and your partner comfort measures that actually work. I hold space when things get intense. I remind you that you’re doing this—and that it’s okay to need help while you do.
I don’t have children of my own, but I believe deeply in the village. And I believe the village itself needs tending to. You can’t pour from an empty cup—so part of my role is making sure you have what you need to refill yours.
My heart has a special place for young parents, teen parents, and LGBTQ+ families who might not have the support system they deserve. If that’s you—I see you. And I’m here.
We all want to be heard. We all want to feel supported. We all want to feel secure in the decisions we’re making. I believe it’s my purpose to demonstrate the kind of love that builds connection, creates room for growth, and ultimately makes the world a little better.
Connection can build all kinds of opportunities. And I want to be part of yours.
I became a doula because I lived it first.
When I gave birth to my own children, I felt the full weight of what it means to be vulnerable and powerful at the same time. I experienced the kind of strength you don’t know you have until you’re in it. And I realized something: every person deserves to feel supported through that—no matter how they choose to birth.
That’s what brought me here. Nearly seven years ago, I started this work because I wanted to be the kind of presence I needed—someone who respects your choices, holds space for your emotions, and reminds you that you’re capable of this.
I trained through DONA International and Sista Midwife Productions, became a childbirth educator, and learned Bengkung Belly Binding so I could offer postpartum healing that honors tradition and science. But before all of that, I was a certified paramedic in Louisiana—trained to stay calm when things get intense, think clearly under pressure, and show up steady when people need me most.
That background shapes how I support families. I know how to read a room. I know when to step in and when to step back. And I know that sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is just be present without trying to fix everything.
As your doula, I teach you comfort measures that actually work. I support your partner so they know how to help you. I hold space when labor gets hard and remind you that you’re doing this—even when it doesn’t feel like it. And in those early postpartum weeks, I’m there to check in, help you process, and make sure you’re not just surviving—you’re healing.
I believe every birth deserves to be honored. Every parent deserves to feel held. And every family deserves someone who shows up fully, no matter what the journey looks like.
I’m here to be that for you.

WHY THIS COLLECTIVE IS DIFFERENT
You’re not getting one perspective. You’re getting two.
Mitsuzi’s nursing background means you walk into birth with a plan, not just hope. You know your options. You know what questions to ask. You understand what’s happening in your body—and what your rights are.
Shaniya or Megan’s hands-on support means you and your partner aren’t alone in the intensity. You have someone teaching you how to breathe, how to move, how to cope. Someone reminding you that you’re strong enough for this.
Relief coverage after 12 hours means no one is running on empty. If your labor is long, you don’t lose your support—you get fresh energy when you need it most.
And because we’re an all-Black team rooted in Houston, we bring cultural competency that doesn’t need to be explained. We get it. And we’ve got you.
